Ben Maguire: Lib Dem MP for North Cornwall

Ben got into political campaigning in Cornwall aged just 18 as he realised the positive impact committed and passionate MPs can have in their local community.

About Ben:

Born in Treliske, 32 year old Ben grew up in Withiel near Wadebridge and went to school in Bodmin where his mother was a teacher and his father a GP. 

After graduating, Ben worked as a Parliamentary aide and constituency caseworker to former Lib Dem MPs Dan Rogerson and later Ian Swales. He also took research placements in the Hong Kong Legislative Council and the United States Senate.

More recently, Ben has worked as a solicitor in top international law firms and in the microchip industry.

He was elected as MP for North Cornwall in July 2024.

"My top priorities for North Cornwall are, firstly, creating affordable housing - a good home is a right, not a luxury. 

"Secondly, rejuvenating our crippled health services and ensuring our stretched schools finally get their full and fair funding. 

"In addition, the scandalous pollution of our rivers and beaches - as well as the increased flooding and the misery and chaos the climate crisis has already brought - means I will push protection of our environment to the top of the political agenda at every opportunity”.

“Sadly, our fantastic area was been shamelessly neglected by the Tories who were focused on clinging to power until July. In keeping with the long tradition of local Lib Dem MPs, the people of North Cornwall will always come above petty party politics for me”.
